The Research Base for the Development of Internet of Things Strategy in China was established in 2012. It is one of the 15 off-campus research bases for humanities and social sciences set up by the Jiangsu Provincial Department of Education. In January 2016, it successfully passed the inspection and acceptance by the Provincial Department of Education. The base is headed by Professor Wang Yuhong, a young academic leader in Jiangsu Province. With a focus on the development needs of the Internet of Things industry in strategic emerging industries, guided by strategic and policy research, and utilizing multidisciplinary research methods such as management science and economics, the base is dedicated to promoting research in the fields of the Internet of Things industry theory and practice, digital economy, and becoming a comprehensive think tank platform with significant regional influence, contributing to scientific research, talent training, and social services. It provides theoretical and practical guidance to governments, enterprises, and other related organizations in decision making, as well as formulating strategies, policies, and measures for the development of emerging industries, and offers intellectual support to the development of the Internet of Things industry in China. The base was selected as a think tank platform by the Science and Technology Association of Jiangsu Province and included in the list of think tanks in the China Think Tank Index (CTTI) source in December 2017 and December 2019, respectively. In the evaluation of the Jiangsu Provincial Association for Science and Technology's characteristic academic societies and science and technology think tank bases in 2019, the base was rated as an outstanding unit.

Relying on the School of Business at Jiangnan University and the Jiangsu Internet of Things Research and Development Center, the base is rooted in the reality of China and Jiangsu Province, emphasizing the interdisciplinary theories and tools at the intersection of economics and management. It focuses on research in areas such as "Internet of Things industry development strategies, policies, and paths", "development of the digital economy", and "theory and application of forecasting and decision-making", and explores the growth mechanisms and related theories of emerging industries such as the Internet of Things and the digital economy. The base has four research directions: "Research on the Development of Emerging Industries in the Internet of Things", "Research on Emerging Industry Development Models and Paths", "Research on Industrial Transformation Theory and Practice under the Background of the Digital Economy", and "Research on Data-Driven Forecasting and Decision-Making Methods".

The team consists of 9 members, including 1 professor and 6 associate professors. Among them, 6 have been selected as Jiangsu Province's "Six Talent Peaks". The members of the base collaborate closely in conducting research projects based on academic interests, and have reasonable age structure within the team with complementary academic expertise. They have formed a research team characterized by innovation, vitality, and close cooperation.

Over the past five years, the base has undertaken more than 60 vertical projects funded by the National Natural Science Foundation, National Social Science Foundation, Ministry of Education's Humanities and Social Science Projects, Jiangsu Natural Science Foundation, Jiangsu Social Science Foundation, Jiangsu Soft Science Foundation, and others.
